master bedroom plans and let's go for a walk.

Here is the current state of our bedroom:

And here is a design board I came up with for it. It's mostly to get a feel for which fabrics I want in the space and doesn't have any of the finishing details and accessories on it.
We already have a new quilt for the bed, a white pickstitch quilt similar to the one Pottery Barn sells. I would love to make an upholstered headboard (we now are in a queen size bed), maybe find a wood one with good lines I can upholster myself from a thrift store. Slipcover our loveseat in a grey, more on that topic later on. Add a rug since we have hardwoods now. And add a variety of pillows all in the blue and black tones to create interest and contrast. Oh and slipcover the ottoman in a black and white stripe fabric. I also have a lamp shade project in mind and maybe even find new bases for the new shades if I can find the shape I'm wanting. We aren't re-painting the walls so what I put in here has to go with the wall colors, however since we are only here temporarily I don't want to stress about the wall color. I want a design I can use in other houses down the road as well.

And in other news, my baby began walking last night!

I know it's hard to see it in these photos but he is walking. Until I figure out how to do videos on here you'll have to take my word for it! So now I've got 3 to chase after... wish me luck!!!

IKEA dresser revamp.

A year ago while in IKEA, I came across the MALM dresser in the as is section discounted down to $33. They were begin discontinued because of a new design or something like that. Now normally this dresser would be way to modern for my taste but my 2 big boys needed dressers and these were the best price I'd be able to find for their size (the drawers are huge!). Anyway I got them with the plan to add molding to them or new hardware to them at least to make them a little less modern and more like us.
Here they are in the boys' room at our last house.
Finally a year later I got around to giving them a little jewelery.

I couldn't decide on which knobs I liked best so I choose 3 different ones and put them all together for a whimsical and eclectic mix.

I love how the look now. They're like totally new dressers. The knobs came from Hobby Lobby and I spent about $40 on them, more than each dresser, but oh well, it was worth it! (tip, if you do this, especially to these kind of dressers, make sure you put painters tape down ontop of where you plan to drill a hole and drill from the the outside of the drawer instead of the inside, it will help not break the finish on the drawer and keep it mostly in tact. What does break off will be covered by the knob if any at all).

And just so you aren't jealous that my kids keep a tidy room all the time, I pushed and nudged all of the toys out of the picture snapping area. They have to dump out each and every basket of toys each and every day including the day these pictures were taken!

i spy. and a giveaway.

Have you seen these Ikat bowls from Anthropologie? The colors are so yummy looking!
One of each please...

I can think of 101 uses for these little bowls... hold keys, jewelery, misc desktop things, and of course because they're so pretty they wouldn't look weird if you sat it out just as a decoration not holding anything.

Want to win one? Visit Janell for your chance to call a set of these your own. Good luck!

a place to hang it up.

Consider one of my project goals for this new year done!

Now my jewelery has a place to hang, instead of the bathroom doorknob which it had been living since we moved just before Christmas.

I love how it looks and it couldn't have been easier to make. A bulletin board wrapped in your choice of fabric, adhered with staples, and finished with upholstery tacs from here.

Now with my jewelery out where I can see it, it is much more easier to grab a piece to finish off my outfits each day. And as a bonus it acts as a piece of art in the room as well. (it's the first thing that has been hung on the walls since we moved here).

I know it's early but have you accomplished any of your 2011 goals yet?

WE silhouettes.

I went to visit West Elm for the first time (I know a little late but I've never had one near me), and discovered these 2 silhouettes on clearance.

Naturally I had to buy them (under $22 for the 2 of them) considering my love for silhouettes talked about here and here.

I'm hoping to eventually create a gallery wall in which these will be apart of like the ones below.

Such a cozy feel they give to a room!

seeing spots.

I'm loving these dotted fabrics lately. I think one may make an appearance in our master bedroom.

And these trays from Furbish are so fun looking.

Have you spotted anything lately?

guestroom plans.

In an effort to begin bringing color into our home, here is an idea board I put together for our guestroom. It's mostly neutral but with the Wilmington fabric I'm hoping it will bring in the pop of bold color I'm looking for. Since we are in a tempoprary home we aren't repainting the walls (they are a soft green). This plan isn't the best idea for the current wall color but eventually when we are able to paint I can imagine a soft gray or maybe the rice grain from Sherwin Williams which we painted our last house.

{for some reason I cannot get the picture to show up larger no matter what size I make it}

Now to just getting around to accomplishing it...

color.

Here are some inspiration photos for my color goal. I can always count on Lonny to deliver color! I love the color use in all of these rooms, wether it's the entire room or a pop somewhere, I'm definitely going to be using these for inspiration.

i spy.

It's about time we update our towel situation in all the bathrooms. These Organic Woodgrain towels at West Elm are on my radar. Do you think a monogram on them would be too much with their already busy texture?
While I was there I noticed these fun bath mats. Who doesn't love a good chevron? Why couldn't I have found these a few weeks earlier, before the mats I recently purchased?

more goals for 2011.

I've been thinking about more goals I want to achieve in 2011. They aren't anything huge like running a marathon or climbing Mt. Everest, but little things that can make a big impact.

- adding more color to our decor.
I love color but am always afraid to use it in our own home. I think this is mainly because I hate spending money so I like to buy things for the long term. If I get turquoise curtains, will I still love them 6 months from now or will I want to change them? This is why I tend to go more neutral with my pickings. Remember this table?

I loved the color! My husband loved the color! But it looked so out of place in our home so I changed it to this.

I still love it but there is no risk or WOW factor. I would love to break this neutral rut I'm in and begin adding some color. Even if it is slow and suttle, it will still have a big impact in an all neutral room. And if I add little things that are easily changeable then I won't feel so bad if I decide I really don't like that color anymore.

-wearing more jewelry.

I'm a girly girl and I love fashion and jewelery but fact is that I have 2 rambunctious little boys and a soon to be 1 year old who is also beginning to take after his brothers in the rambunctious character so by the time I'm done dressing myself in just new clothes for the day (and sometimes I don't even get half way done) I'm having to run after one of them and stop them from doing something before they land themself or their brother in the emergency room. By the time I'm done breaking up whatever is going on I forget about adding jewelry to my ensemble. I received some fun jewelry for Christmas and I want to make it a point to wear it this year.

- cover a bulletin board.

I have always loved this bulletin board Erika covered. Bryn made some too.

I have all the supplies except the upholstery tacs so once I get those hopefully I will find some time to make it. I plan to hang my fun jewelery on it. I'm thinking also that if my jewelery is hanging where I see it every day it will also make it easier to wear it, instead of digging through a box or drawer for it.

So there are 3 more goals of mine for 2011. There are probably more but those are the ones taht have been on my mind the most lately.

I spent the weekend re-decorating and organizing my in-laws living/family room. I'll share before and after pictures later this week when I'm able to get some good after ones. It's not completely done, but it's done for now and there was a huge difference made!
