autumn chalkboard design.

I try to switch up our chalkboard with a message for the current season/holiday. For this autumn I found this quote online and thought it would be perfect.

It is a little ironic though seeing how we live in central Florida where leave changing doesn't happen until around January or February if at all, and it's very sparse. Nothing like up north, I miss New England this time of year. If only I was able to pull the kids out school for trips up north to soak in the fall colors and do some apple picking.

autumn scents.

Today I thought I would share with you some of my favorite candles for the autumn season. This is my favorite time of year!! I pretty much always have a candle lit whenever I'm home letting the pumpkin and fall aroma fill up the house. It hasn't really felt like fall until just a few days ago when the weather dropped a bit and jeans and a long sleeve shirt felt good to wear outside.

The first candle on the list I think is my favorite this year. It's scent is Orange Cinnamon. It's delicious!

A friend gave it to me when she came over a few weeks ago so I'm not too sure of where it can be purchased. I know she reads the blog occasionally so maybe she can chime in in the comments, Victoria?

It lasts pretty long too. It almost looks as though it's never been used even though I've used it every day since I received it.

The second candle on my list is by Yankee Candle, how could one of theirs not make the list of the best smelling candles?

This one is spiced pumpkin and is the perfect scent for fall. It reminds me of fall baking and pumpkin bread, yum!

Although you can easily go to the Yankee candle store or Bed Bath and Beyond and probably find this candle, I scored mine for a great price at Marshall's. If you love Yankee candles but can't bring yourself to pay the price for one don't forget to check out discount stores like Marshall's, TJ Maxx, and HomeGoods.

The last one on my list is one I use each year. It is the cheapest and probably the easiest to find as it comes form Walmart and it's only $5 for this size.

I peeled the sticker off of it but if I remember correctly it's name is pumpkin spice. It's the Mainstays brand.

It smells just as good as the others and is usually the first fall candle I lite when the season arrives.

I'm also hoping to find some of Glades new fall line in pumpkin and maple, or their apple pie scent. For some reason our grocery store hasn't gotten them in. I don't decorate too much for fall but you can always count on the yummy scent of fall to greet you at the door when you visit us, all thanks to one of these amazing smelling candles.

Do you have any favorite candles you lite for fall?

a new hutch arrangement: simple and neutral.

I did it again, well actually if I'm being honest this is the 3rd arrangement I've done with my hutch. I finally decided the books were throwing me off and took them out completely.

Now it's just white, silver, and glass. I think this setup will be easier to add to for each season as it's a neutral background.

I also decided to try something new and do some layers with the platters and art. So far nothing has fallen.

I hope to grow my collection of Paul Revere pedestal bowls on top.

I'm happy with it for now, we'll see how long it lasts!

zebra.

Lately I've noticed a lot of zebra print in photos of rooms I've been drooling over. Some of these photos are ones I've loved for quite some time while others are more new to me, but for some reason the zebra is what I'm now noticing in them. Here's a sampling {all from my Pinterest page}:

I've never thought of myself as an animal print fan but these photos have me thinking zebra will be making a debut in our home real soon, most likely the family room.

our master bath.

Yesterday I mentioned our master bath is the only room finished in our new home, and ironically it is usually the only room in our home that never gets touched. I think this is the best master bath we have had in all of our homes. It is plenty big enough for us and it's the first time we have had a double vanity. I told my hubby this may make me spoiled and I will never be able to go back to a bathroom with only one sink ever again!

If we owned this home I would install a shelf here in the little vanity cut out, this is what I've suggested to my sister for her guest bathroom which has the same detail, but since we don't own this home I added our little ottoman for some pattern, and warmth. I love having some sort of seating in a bathroom, you know other than the toilet.

The mirror wall is quite large so to help break it up I added this large frame between the two sinks to help fill up the space. However so it didn't look too chaotic I used glass urns filled with white toiletry items in them to keep the space light and airy.

Across from the vanity I added my old vanity from when I was a little girl since the space was large enough to allow it. It gives us even more storage in the space with a large basket underneath and allows me to use one of my milk glass lamps in the room, another item I love added to the bathroom to make it a bit more special and cozy. Antique paintings help in this department too.

Some detail shots.

Another love for the bathroom is white towels. I think it helps your own bathroom feel like a spa bathroom. Plus they are easy to keep clean with bleach compared to other colors. Oh and the closet and water room are behind those doors you can see in the photos above, in case you're wondering.

progress in our new master bedroom.

I'm beginning to get our bedroom put together since we moved, it's probably the fastest time it's taken me to do something to it in each of our moves. In our last house I created this bird collage above each of our bedside chests, however I soon after I could imagine it surrounding the tv, to sort of make the tv blend in a little better.

It's not done yet, I still have one more picture to hang and I think a few more added to it would make it look a little more complete. You can see here that it butts up against the door into our room, don't mind the bike my 2 year old decided to bring into the house. And I still need to find hardware for the top drawers, when I ordered new ones I didn't realize there were two different sizes, oops. I'll share before and after pictures of that makeover when it's completely finished.

So do you think the collage helps to camouflage the tv a little? Or did you like the collage design in our last home better?

One room that is finished is our master bathroom. Ironically it's the room I've always never done anything to. I'll share those pictures tomorrow.
