creamy tomato and vegetable soup and other holiday entertaining ideas.

The other night I made a new soup. I'm calling it Creamy Tomato and Vegetable Soup...

Recipe:

3-4 cloves of garlic minced
2-3 tbs of olive oil

4 carrots, peeled and diced.

half of a yellow onion sliced thin
1/2C-1C of diced white mushrooms
2 small cans of whole peeled tomatoes {or you can use 1 large}
4C of chicken broth
1/2C to 3/4C heavy cream {I didn't measure but it was somewhere in between this}

In a large sauce pan heat oil and brown garlic. Add carrots, onions, and mushrooms with a little bit of chicken broth {enough so the vegetables don't burn and get stuck to the pan}. Cook about 10 minutes or until onions begin feeling soft and have a caramelized look to them. Add the canned tomatoes crushing them with your hand, then add the juice. Break up the tomatoes more with a spoon and add the rest of the broth and cream. Simmer until carrots can be broken with a fork. Once the vegetables are all soft, remove from heat and let cool. Once cooled enough, {about 15-20 min} add portions to a blender and puree. Serve with five grain bread {or any other of your choice}, or with a grilled cheese sandwich. I made mozzarella and tomato grilled sandwiches for hubby and I, and traditional ones for the boys. Hubby loved it, the boys liked it but it wasn't their favorite, they are a hard crowd to please!

I was inspired by this recipe I found, and made it vegetarian style since I don't eat meat, hubby isn't big on sausage either so this way was perfect for us. Her photos are better than mine. If you've never visited her before, Jenny's blog is fantastic! I discovered her a few weeks ago and find myself re-reading all of her posts... she used to live in New England so she has me hooked with her Cape Cod style and all of her New England travel posts, most of which are pretty familiar from my travels there so it's fun reminiscing through her photos. She has some great entertaining ideas for Christmas {and all year long}, that I will be copying for my sister's baby shower. Take a look, and don't blame me if you find yourself still there 4 hours from now and wanting to try every recipe!

I'll start sharing my holiday decorating with you all next week, until then I'll be partying hard at my hubby's work party this weekend, trying to rock some new heels with a swollen and bruised foot, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting some weird looks as I hobble along! Wish me luck!

angry bird party, halloween, thanksgiving, and everything in between.

Like I said in yesterday's post, we've been pretty busy the past month or so. Here are a few collages to sum up everything that has been going on {they are all from my i-phone so please excuse the poor quality}:

The end of October we celebrated our oldest's 7th birthday with an Angry Happy Birds-Day Party. Invitations were handmade to look like the angry birds. I made my first ever cake pops, not as hard as I thought it would be, and my MIL will kill me if she sees that I put this picture of her up but it's too cute! I made all of the kids these angry bird masks as their favor,and event he adults enjoyed them!

Just a few days later we had Luigi, a ninja, and the cutest dragon I've ever seen as guests. Luigi even won a best costume contest, the prize? A large box of candy... just what we needed!

I participated in Downtown Orlando's craft fair again this year but unfortunately didn't do as well as I would have liked. It seemed as though people were out to walk and look and not buy. Hopefully next year will be a good year again! You can see some of my new products I sold here.

We spent many days at the playground, including anew one we discovered through a birthday party.

Baking and cooking for Thanksgiving this past weekend. It was just us and my brother in law. It was the first time I had ever cooked a turkey by myself, I was nervous but it seemed to be a hit with all the guys I spent the day with! The kids and I also made these homemade "marshmallows" for our hot chocolate during desert time. I'll share how later this week.

And finally we spent this past saturday evening with some friends at one of the prettiest communities, it helps that it was built by Disney World and is just as magical as the parks. they had their tree lighting ceremony and Santa arrived with Mrs. Claus. They also had train rides and horse and carriages, I should have taken pictures but I didn't, oops.

We also learned that my sister and her husband are expecting a little boy on April 1st, I was the only one from our family who guessed a boy... a mama of boys just knows! But just as happy as we were to hear their good news, we were devastated to learn about the tragic accident and loss of one of my husband's family members.

So now you're up to date on everything that has been going on here. I've also been working on some projects, I need to photograph them, and been busy planning my sister's baby shower that I will be sharing with you in the next coming weeks.

Holiday shopping and a discount code.

Hi everyone! Long time since I've been on here I know. We've had a bit of a busy October and November, but I'm hoping it will calm down now, at least for a week or 2. Just wanted to come on real quick to share some new items in the shop with you all and let you know about a discount code to take advantage of.

This year I've made some holiday pillows covers:

Some new ruler designs including cheveron:

Also I have the last of the Beatrix Potter frames listed. I'm not sure if I'll have any more after these are gone.

And finally a new style of the Richard Scarry frames. These do not have a particular letter on them but rather pages from a story book so they are a bit more generic and less personal.

And in the spirit of the holiday here is a discount code to receive 15% off your order. Just type in HOLIDAY12 at checkout. Click here to start shopping!

I hope you all had a wonderFULL Thanksgiving. I'll be back this week to catch you up on everything that has been going on here!
